3 Things You Can Do Today to be a Real Life “Influencer”.

Shirt and skirt: www.jcpenney.comI remember the first day I heard the word influencer. I thought “a what”? By pixlee.com definition: “A social media influencer has access to a large audience and can persuade others by virtue of their authenticity and reach.”I sat down and had an internalizing conversation with myself. I couldn’t believe that we had come to a place in history where ordinary people like you and I have the power to shape each other’s thoughts and habits. I set out on my path to becoming one…After doing research I realized that sometimes things can get crossed and hazy in the world of social media. We have all sometimes been sort of guilty with either watching our following on social media sites or comparing ourselves. I try to stay away from that because, in all honesty, I know God made me for goals that are even greater. I once read a variation of this quote by David Niven that I have come to love:“You are not just here to fill space or be a background character in someone else’s movie. Consider this: nothing would be the same if you did not exist. Every place you have ever and everyone you have ever spoken to would be different without you. We are all connected, and we are all affected by the decisions and even the existence of those around us.” With that said, I believe that we all have a special purpose and “influence” by existing. Activate yours today by doing these 3 things:1. Look people in the eyes when you talk to them. As a matter of fact, look “as many” people in the eye as possible. Grocery stores, coffee shops, airports..where ever you are look up (out of your phone) and look around. There is someone that needs you. They want to be heard, they need there day to be made, they want connections with other human beings. They want love. We all do. Why is it that when we care about someone we look at them in the eyes to express love and care, but on your daily journey we become busy to the things that are around? We avoiding other humans who help us “feel”. You might feel that you don’t need it but it’s someone out there who wants to know their existence matters. Look 3 strangers in the eyes today, and smile. It really is not that bad or awkward…it actually could be the difference in someone’s day. 2. Call someone and tell them how much they mean to you. Whewww CHILE, does anyone express themselves like this anymore? Just kidding! I have a few friends who call and check on me and I do the same. The older I get I try and make it my BUSINESS to let people know that I care about them despite being “busy”. I call back home to check on the elderly, check on my mom’s friends, check on family— just check on people! They really appreciate it, especially if you know they live alone.3. BE A BETTER PERSON. Period. This might sound very general, but I’m being specific.  What does that even mean? Maybe that means forgiving someone because by forgiving them you are teaching them how to forgive too.  Make a decision to love. That might mean asking someone like a family member or coworker do they need anything or any help. Or making dinner and inviting someone over. It could mean a random act of kindness for a stranger. Just anything to give more of yourself than expected. Extend yourself today by giving service to the world and the world will be a much better person simply because you exist. How have you been a “real-life influencer”?
