Somewhere along the line, I read this article about a teacher who traveled and lived her life on a very minimal budget.
I was determined to take some aspect of the article and transform my life into something that I could be proud of when I look back on and something that I actually would enjoy along the way.
One of my goals has always been to travel the world and to inspire others while doing so! I’ve been to so many places and I have a few passport stamps-but I plan on getting even more in 2018.

The Best Airline Travel Tips on a Budget
Get an Airline Credit Card
Airline credit cards. They are awesome for traveling. Not only do you get to earn miles but you also get other perks along the way. I am forever grateful to my mom for keeping me in check with my credit and not allowing me to get out of hand at a young age, so applying for a credit card was not that difficult.
However, if you are in a space where you cannot get a credit card at this time, I recommend getting to a point where you are comfortable enough to actually pay off on time. The card doesn’t have to be maxed out but it can help that airlines will give you points for signing up.
Get Bonus Points
So here’s a scenario: You sign up for a credit card with an airline that you love. I personally like to fly Delta or my fav, Southwest. You get 40,000 or 50,000 bonus points within the first three months if you spent over thousand dollars.
Now I know I spent quite a bit of money and if you are working in the real world and make it spending that amount of money should be very simple for you. This is granted you use the card on bills, groceries, and other necessities like gas.
After you accumulate that amount you get points allowing you to fly for a very low cost. Most airlines only charge you a fee between $5 and $50 for in security fees which is very little compared to the amount you safe for use in their car on everyday purchases. The only additional fees are the luggage, which you get free when you fly Southwest (another score).
Fly Southwest
I personally like Southwest because they have reasonable flights and when you get points it’s even more reasonable.
This past Christmas I didn’t feel like driving home but I did anyway. I told my brother that I wanted to fly home and I told him that I have points with my cart. He said, “So you basically flyin’ home for $12”? I replied, ummmm yeah! I, however, ended up saving my points and driving down home (a comfortable four-hour drive).
Even though I was super tired from work and wanted to jump on the plane it felt good knowing that whatever I decide to travel the next time that $12 won’t be such a major inconvenience. International fees are a little higher, but nothing compared to a full priced ticket! Signing up for this card is really one decision I don’t regret at all.
