Nutritional Yeast to Camera.jpg

Have you ever heard of Nutritional Yeast?

I recently tried it out and added it to a few of my dishes. I love a bowl of soup and this vegan additive provided a different flavor!

The first time hearing about nutritional yeast I immediately went: What???What? For most of my life I have heard of “yeast” in not the most beneficial way. I’ve been taught that it is something that you should stay away from.

This is not the case with “nutritional yeast”, of course!

This product, which can be purchased at your local Kroger, is a food additive which can serve as a parmesan cheese substitute. Thanks to my Bragg live foods family for sharing their special Nutritional Yeast to try. This post is sponsored by them but all opinions remain my own.

What is Nutritional Yeast?

But what is in it and how is it different from regular yeast? It is yeast of course, but the yeast is deactivated. Nutritional yeast also contains vitamins. This provides a great way to add a cheese flavor to quick snacks and food. This type of yeast comes as flakes that you can sprinkle as an add on to a dish.

How Can I Use Nutritional Yeast?

To sum it up, I would use this on anything that you could put cheese on, some people have made roasted broccoli with nutritional yeast baked on top, and some have even added it to popcorn. Nutritional yeast does have a strong taste to it, so it is acquired.

However, if you are allergic to dairy and looking for a cheese sprinkle substitute you may have found your match. I could also see this added into pasta or on top of a pizza or cheese bread [as I did when I took the photos in this article].
